As MHM’s General Counsel and National Director of Independence, Bill provides comprehensive legal support, advice, and guidance to MHM's executive committee and board of directors, as well as to its 30+ offices around the country. This includes collaborating with business leaders to improve internal processes and risk mitigation, as well as advising on and negotiating transactions. Bill represents the firm on legal matters regarding internal governance and operations, regulatory issues pertaining to the firm and its clients, administrative and enforcement proceedings, and litigation matters. Bill also oversees MHM’s compliance with professional independence standards and counsels firm professionals on independence issues.
Bill has both an accounting and law background. Previously, Bill was at Baker Botts LLP in Dallas, Texas, where he represented accounting firms in actions involving audit, tax and consulting services, as well as regulatory matters. He also served as an enforcement attorney with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and as Vice President and Associate General Counsel of a $1.5 billion leading provider of financial, property, and consumer information. Bill is also a CPA and formerly worked as an auditor at a Big Four firm. Bill received his J.D. from Southern Methodist University School of Law and his B.B.A. in accounting and Master in Professional Accounting degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
