Mayer Hoffman McCann P.C. Celebrates 60 Years
LEAWOOD, KAN, May 1, 2014 — Mayer Hoffman McCann P.C. (MHM) is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Firm.
Founded in 1954 in Kansas City, MO, MHM is celebrating a milestone anniversary of 60 years. In that time, the Firm has grown from a single location accounting practice to a national firm with 36 offices coast to coast and in major markets across the country.
Bill Hancock, MHM President, stated "We are excited to be celebrating the firm we are today. It's been a tremendous experience to witness and be a part of the growth of a national firm and all the talented people who have joined us."
Founded in 1954 by Ernie Mayer, the firm became Mayer White and Hoffman when Bill Hoffman merged his practice with Mayer's in 1960. Both Mayer and Hoffman believed they had similar values and ideas about growing a practice. In 1978 Chuck McCann became managing partner and the firm's name changed to Mayer Hoffman McCann. At that time, there were 34 personnel and 6 partners.
In 1998, MHM saw an opportunity to begin the process of becoming a national firm. The tax and consulting part of the practice was spun-off to Century Business Services, Inc. (now CBIZ, Inc.) with MHM focusing solely on the audit and assurance services. In 2002, MHM launched a national expansion program to build the national CPA firm. That year alone, MHM added the attest practices of six other CPA firms associated with CBIZ. From that point on, MHM continued to grow the practice across the country, creating a strong geographic footprint for serving clients. Today MHM has 36 locations and more than 280 shareholders.
"I am excited about what the future holds," said Andy Burczyk, newly named Chief Operating Officer for MHM. "The accounting profession has certainly evolved, and we've been fortunate to grow right along with it. We eagerly continue to look for ways to keep our clients informed of new standards and issues impacting their business, be actively involved in the communities in which we live and work, and be active participants in the governing bodies of the profession. At the same time, we have great opportunities for our professionals to influence and shape the future of our Firm."
MHM specializes in attest services for mid-market and growing businesses, not-for-profit organizations and government agencies. Services include financial statement audits of public and private companies, employee benefit plan audits, service organization control reports, reviews, compilations, litigation support and reports on performance of agreed-upon procedures.
